Day of National Leaders

On 1 November marks the day of the national awakeners . On this day, Bulgaria pays tribute to the activities of countless national awakeners, who created the Bulgarian Revival. Long before the official announcement of this holiday by law, the Bulgarian people honor their awakeners and canonize them as saints in their historical memory. It was first celebrated in Plovdiv in 1909 G., and from 1922 to 1945 G. is a national holiday. The fact is remarkable, that the first law of the newly liberated Bulgarian state was the law on compulsory universal primary education and, that 9 years before the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1869 G. the literary society is established, which marks the beginning of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.  The idea of Awakening Day arose in the difficult time of mental devastation after the First World War. For many, the real threat of the disintegration of our national value system is clear. At such a moment, we Bulgarians look at the deeds of those, who, in difficult times, with the power of his thought and word, have restored the balance and spiritual stability of the people. Today we are again in a difficult social situation, economic, health and moral crisis. Let us look at the great work of our national revivalists, let us look within ourselves for stimuli to imitate and take a step towards one more- bright future for Bulgaria.
